Well, I took posession of my new car yesterday. An EF II manual I6 Futura.
The guy I bought it off said it has factory gas. I assume he meant Tikford. Not so. It's got ELKO. The problem I have is that it's completely gutless on GAS, and on petrol it's not much better that an auto EF. If it's putting out it's standard 157kW + 10kW for the pacies and 2.5" lukey, on petrol, I'd estimate the power on gas is down near the 110-120 mark max @ the flywheel. Power is so crap that you can really only hit the rev limiter on gas in 1st gear. Can anyone give me any information on the ELKO system? How it works, how it performs compared to other systems, how to tune it etc etc etc. |

I know your pain, because i got mine only a little while ago. it also has really poor gas performance, with Scavengers,cat,2.5,cold air. On petrol (98ron) it really goes much better. i plan on getting the thing dyno tuned soon, and maybe get the converter serviced, because i get ~300 to a tank (mixed highway,town) which im not pleased with.
if you find a solution could you post it please, thanks. |

i had an el futura wgn on gas running a elko system and although it ran not to bad it put me right off owning a dual fuel car as it was forever needing to be looked at. i had it dyno'd at around 95 - 100 rwkw. round town i could never manage much more than 300. on a trip i could get over 500 per tank. factory gas is the way to go.
having said all that it doesn't mean u can't get yours running well. it prolly just needs a tune. gas tunes are dirt cheap as far as resetting mixtures and idle is concerned. if you have no luck it is possible to change converters.

i had the same problem as you when i bought my el. it came with ford service history but i did the following anyway;
- ngk gas plugs - spiral core 8 mm leads - new oil - ryco filter, oil and fuel - service tranny - service diff - get gas system tuned i did this all my self (apart from tuning) so it did not cost that much. it now runs beatifully and with some power. as a side note check your cooling system, it should be in good condition as gas cars run a little hotter.

ok for all you melbourniates. Check out hallam performance (in hallam of course) for all your LPG tuning needs. I do not work for them and do not get anything back from them for putting customers their way but they did help me out heaps with my LPG system when i had it
