I've noticed on mom's EBII Fairmont the clutch fan kicks in about 30 seconds after the cars started regardless of temperature or anything. Is this normal?

They do seem to cut in at first, but mine used to settle after a minute or so. But it got worse and would increase in speed as the revs rose.
If u spin the fan when the engine is not running and it seems stiff then its buggered. Time to fit thermos, much quieter. I never miss the old clutch fan.

yeah i understand how it would increase when the revs rise. so it seems to be normal for the fans to come on so early. queer.

They all spin when cold but as the revs rise it should not increase very much atall. It should only increase speed with revs when the temp from the radiator is above a certain temp to increase air through the rad to assist cooling. But if yr fan keeps increasing when cold or is hard to turn with the engine off and cold the fan is buggered.
