LPG Injection is now Commercially avaliable! And guess what, taxi pack Ford's are behind the game!
From next month Holden offers duel fuel on Commodores featuring LPG injection. It's the sesquential vapour system from the US. Holden claims the power is unchanged at 175kws - seems sus as i would of thought the different fuel would make it's power at different points and that. Rather sad to see that Ford havn't embraced this technology as quickly considering there huge support for LPG vehicles over the last few years (offering factory Tickford duel fuel and then the E-gas). I'd also think this'll effect Falcon sales as previously holden didn't have an LPG factory option did they? So Ford had a monopoly there, now Holdens got a more advanced system. But I guess this means that shortly well see LPGi or LPi (what ever it's called) systems avaliable aftermarket. |

if u tune the car on petrol it'll have more power then LPG.
compared to stock, the LPGi system will have more power due to the optimum AFR's. deffinately good to see LPGi being used!

Emissions. Retard the spark and you get lower emissions 2. Safety. They run the mixture too rich and the spark too far retarded for performance in favour of safety for the engine. 3. Best power and economy with points 1 and 2 in mind. If you put an aftermarket Gas system on your car which is tuned for the correct AFRs for peak power and peak torque (yes, they are different) you will likely get more power than with Petrol, especially if you can optimize the spark for gas. However, do the same optimisations for petrol and you'll come out on top again. |

The reason why Ford haven't done it yet is because a company in Victoria is taking Vialle to court over an LPI system ... hence Ford is unable to use the new technology in the newer vehicles ... not sure how long Ford has to stick with Vialle either ... but i think Ford is stuck with the old system until either:
1) Vialle win the court battle and are allowed to bring the new system into Australia for Ford. (if that ever happens) 2) Ford's contract with Vialle ends and they utilise another LPI company that can supply the equipment for Ford to install. But for now .. Ford is stuck with the current EGAS setup.

I see more scope for a tuned LPG Injected engine than a tuned ULP (even PULP) engine. And cleaner emissions to boot with the LPG system as well. You'll still get better economy with conventional petrol .... but still nowhere near as cheap as LPG still on a $/L basis.
