Just driven the missus car, when the engine is doing about 3000rpm in gear for example and you push the clutch in the RPM is very slow to return to idle.
Normally it should just drop fairly quickly down to idle. Even when in neutral and I rev it up to whatever RPM it takes ages to come back down. What is causing this? It also has a flat spot up to about 2500-3000rpm as well which is probably related somehow. The car is a manual. Any suggestions as to what is wrong? Cheers |

Could either be that you have a vacuum leak (or lack of vacuum) or my other guess is that the idle control valve on the throttle body is playing up which wouldn't suprise me as it did the same with mine.

Its not the idle speed controller because that was replaced with a brand new item just over 6 months ago.
I'll check for vacuum leaks. |

What you must keep in mind temmeh is that technically its not the valve that's faulty but the ECU is what controls it.
You can follow my steps in the other thread to lower its effectiveness. This just means it can change your revs by about 500 instead of 2000.

Can you link me to the other thread?
Do you reckon my ECU is stuffed? |

Timmeh, You may remember me having this same problem a few weeks ago. I had heaps of suggestions and none seemed to correct this. I acquired several tp sensors and isc's from the wreckers and they were all the same. Then people were saying that they all do it and as I had just bought the car, I thought maybe it is normal, but I reckon Ford would have had thousands of complaints if they were like this from new. I hate it, It sounds like you dont know how to drive "Keeping the revs on with the clutch in" and its bugging the hell out of me. I was given an idea of cutting a "Bundy" can out and making a restrictor to place under the idle speed controller (also had to adjust the throttle body to increase revs to allow for air con etc...)and this worked really well for a while but then the idle started bouncing between 500-1000rpm, so I removed it and it is how it originally was again. I have been told by a ford mechanic that it is most probably an ecu issue but its a bit expensive for a hit and miss experiment. If you definitely find out for sure what the cause is, PM me or let me know because it really s**t me.

I had the same problem with my EF.
Put an XR Manual ECU in it, and it fixed it.... Its not a cheap fix, but it worked.

its hard to say mate.
Maybe if you can find a wreckers with another manual xr6 ecu, you could test it in the carpark?? Thats what I did at All Panel and Parts in S.A the guys were cool with me testing it before I purchased it. Not all wreckers are going to be okay with that sorta stuff.....but if you dont ask you never know!!! My story was a little different tho. My car was auto, and I changed it over to a manual. Then I had a chiptorque chip (that was programmed to manual) installed to my Auto ECU. This diddnt fix the problem. So i sourced the manual ECU and it was fine. Still put the chip on the manual one for more grunt. and it all came out fine... still, it was a lot of stuffing around....
