I got to play around with power windows quite a bit when I was installing them into the GLi. I found though that when the windows stuffed up it was either:
a) the rubber guides had dried out, or; b) the metal track that the window guide runs up and down on eventually buckles. To solutions: a) simply spray the rubber guides with some silcone spray and run the window up and down a couple of times b) the track needs the be replaced. The best way to see how warped it has become is to hold it up next to another. I replaced mine the cheaper way and picked up the equivilent manual winder and swapped the mechanism over. the warped track: http://www.teamgemini.8m.com/broken.jpg the manual track: http://www.teamgemini.8m.com/good.jpg and a nice closeup of the warp. http://www.teamgemini.8m.com/broken2.jpg Best to look at all the possible issues before spending cash that big.....

Silcone spray can be purchased at most hardware shops, supercheap, or anyone stocking nulon products, and it gets sprayed in the rubber guides that run around the perimetre of the window. I will give you a hint.....
They are black, and made of rubber.

try using the silcone spray. It needs to be sprayed in the black seal which is in between the outside and inside of the car where the window goes up. spary it a bit and then wind the window up and down a couple of times...

Use NULON EZY-GLIDE Silicon Spray. Its wet based and will kep em going for a LONG time. do NOT use carbon spray or anything that ford uses or recommends as its s**t.
I suggest do it 1-3 times a year on your windows regardless winder/power. My suggestion would be to take the door trims off, gte a can of degreaser, flat head screw driver & a rag.. spray the runners with degreaser and clean it out usin the screw driver and rag at the end of it to get the gunk out, spray it again and then wash it down with a spray bottle of water.. let it dry, apply s**t of ezy-glide. dont be afraid to use 3/4 bottle for all 4 windows. if still fudged, your runners are s**t! gte new ones s/h for $20+. |
