Well my steering rack is leaking power steering fluid from the left side & I'm hitting the insurance company up for it as the damage was from the last accident & the car tracks hard when I'm driving in lanes that truck have made their tracks into the road.
I went to my frontend specialist today & I said to him I have noise from the rack well the rack was tightend & not noisey anymore but as I say the rack is f**k.
How much is a new rack anyways??

ford new out the box, $600 (rack it self no ends or boots) (this price is from memory and could be wrong)

rebuilt changeover item with ends (not tie rod ends) and boots, $250 is the cheapest i found for the ef.

I may be up for a new rack too *unsure* - my steering feels loose like something needs to be tightened - but tie rod ends, camber / castor are spot on - had 2 wheel alignments in the last week - something is MAJORLY screwed...and I don't know what it is grrr - Get a scratching sound when doing hard (read nearly full lock and full lock) right hand turns from the left hand side front brakes - F**k !

Let us know how much a new rack is mate

dc check the lower part of the steering colum (the part in the engine bay) where the universal joint is there is pin this can wear out and makes the steering feel very loose, could even be the uni joint itself turbo heat.
have had this problem on the e-taxi ef was told need new rack and i was p****d when i bought one and went to change and found the rack tobe in excellent condition but the uni joint pin worn.
