Yeah I just noticed I had an annoying slight Knocking sound coming from my EL on quick take off yesterday and other than that no sound of it anywhere else in the rev range. I think it could be doing this maybe due to going back to standard ULP as I was using PULP for a long time until the prices started going up. Or could it be the Knock Sensor is on the way and needs replacing? I am going to start by firstly putting some Fuel Injector Cleaner along with some PULP in my EL today. I will see how that goes.

PULP would cause advanced timing and pinging, and ULP should correct it I thought, so possibly the knock sensor is bot working as expected.

Under cylinder 5
EF/EL type screw in a bit like a oil pressure sender, the AU have a bolt through the middle (and assume BA as well).

can you explain that a little more, it makes no sence. how does lower octane fuel stop knocking?? |

Fuel wont change the timing. Low octane in the fuel wont burn as well and cause detonation. In some cars the knock sensor will retard timing to reduce detonation, but only to a small degree.
Modern motors tuned with more advance timing are more fussy with octane levels in fuel. Older motors dont seem to mind low octane fuel as the timing is less advanced. Thats a very very basic way of looking at it though, Im sure some big brains on here will get into the nitty gritty of it. |

higher fuel prices have made premium better value for money than ever. the price difference is stil laround 6c/L here, and with petrol being $1.49 instead of $1.00ish that means instead if PULP being 6% more expensive its only 4% more expensive

Because due to me using lower Octane fuel in my EL recently I have only started to notice this Knock/Ping coming from the engine. Weird thing it is only noticeable on quick take offs and not on hill climbs as when you notice the "knock" on most other cars with these similar issues. I jacked my EL up yesterday to go hunting for it and yes it is a bugger to get at, as it is right above the starter motor but between the Inlet Manifold and so I wasn't able to reach around to the back of the Sensor to unclip the Connector plug on it to check whether it has 3 volts in it as stated in the Gregory's EL Manual. I guess I will just have tosee how I go after my a tank of PULP and Injector Cleaner is used up??
