I am looking at doing a 347 stroker and have been advised to use a main cap girdle to increase rigidity of the bottom end. Does anyone know a source for such an item? I know they used them in T3 - who manufactured that one? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

www.vpw.com.au or www.highperformanceworld.com.au should both have them, don't know if they are listed on the website but give them a call.

I believe the girdle is more likely to keep all the bits in one area, as opposed to strengthening the block... and as mentioned by EDXR8, any of the larger places that deal with SB ford V8s should be able to provide...

Check out Mr Landau (Shane's) site...

Stroker kits start at around $2k and unless you get an aftermarket block then the basic ones are probably all you need. There really isn't much strengthening you can do, run good quality main studs, a stud girdle and balance the rotating assembly properly and you should be fine for 400-500hp. If you are chasing bigger power figures you really need to invest in a better block which obviously isnt cheap.

The whole process can be very costly but it's a great thing to drive a stroked Windsor. Mine cost a bit over $12k and soon i'll have the results of the MAF and tune to see what i get for it. It feels great to drive already but a tune will add that crispness to it.

Ok this is what i found when i was going to build a tuff 302w/5.0l back in 2002.

The factory blocks are good to 425hp after that they split down the center above cam tunnel.
The best factory block to find is a mexican which are hard to find as more people are learning of them.
The mexican block has a higher nickel content.
Strenght ?

Not sure how much hp either can handle with main girdle.

351w pre 74 can handle 600hp and once 4 bolted 900hp.
351W post 74 can only handle 550hp and can't be 4 bolted as not enough meterial on webbing.

302 A4 SVO 1200hp buy memory at +$6000.

I have seen scat cranks and rods around $800 crank and same dollars $ rods.
You can also get Keith Black brand pistons off the shelf for around $500-$600.

Main girdles where around $300 up here in Qld at sterling ford.

It'll end up costing more once it's tuned etc.
My Mechnic doesn't believe the Main Girdle helps keep em together at all. A properly built 347 with a good tune should be okay for around 500hp.
Much more than that and your playing with fire. Depends how you drive of course.

Forgot to mention also.

AT MORE THAN 425HP IT'S HARD TO KEEP HEAD GASKETS FROM BLOWING DUE TO THE SMALLER DIAMETER HEAD BOLTS OR STUDS.
By memory they run 7/16 opposed to 302-351c & 351w.

You can o-ring but don't no how more o-ringing will help + more cost.

A very good street strip combo is like the elderbrock 400hp/400flb combo with the performer heads.
By memory made more than 350flb from 2500 to 6000 rpm.
