I am currently looking for rims to put on my EL xr6. I am consistently having the problem of finding a rim that i like, only to find out that the rim won't fit the offset of the car.I have been told that all models before the AU, have the same problem. A dodgy looking back street tyre and rim shop told me about putting in a spacer which allows the rim to fit. However, im not sure about the whole procedure, about what it involves, is it legal and can it at all be dangerous. I would like to be fully informed before i make a decision, as i dont really trust the word of the dealer. Any information would be a great help, thanks.

there are addapters and spacers
spacers are like a washer, and are no safe and are not legal. adapters bolt onto your existing studs and then have their own studs, a lot safer but the legality is still questioned. i'd be inclined to say if you do use them, u risk them not being legal as it will likely depend on the cop.

don't use spacers, use hub adapters if you have to.
since your a first member i'll give you a quick tip, see that text in the top right corner that says 'Search', click on it, you can get some good answers really quickly (don't have to wait for people to reply). if you test it out now with the words 'spacer' and then 'hub adapter', you'll find heaps and heaps of threads that'll tell you more and probably answer every question you've asked above! or you could go to this special thread that fuzion made for people in your case - http://fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7546 |

You can get spacers and/or adapters engineered for around $300. Thus making them perfectly legal, and obviously safe if deemed so by an engineer!

Thanx for the tip twr7cx i really should have checked it out before posting. If anyone can recommend a rim that will suit an EL XR that will fit straight on without no bullcrap, it would be much appreciated so i can get a feel for whats out on the market. thanx

I paid $245 for an engineer to make a set of spacers for my EF. They are 22mm thick. The main issue that you will run into is that there isn't enough of the wheel stud that sticks out for the wheel nuts to hold onto. You would also need to look into longer wheel studs. This isn't a cheap way to do it. I paid $160 for the longer wheel studs, that are 30mm longer than the standard ones. This allows most of the wheels for the Japanese cars (Skylines, silvia's etc) to fit Now all I need is a decent set of rims.

i got my hub adapters from www.tempetyres.com.au for $50 each and have not had a problem with them and ive had them for bout 10 months

I am about to delete my rear Hub adapters by fitting an AU live axle rear end. Problem solved
Then get the whole lot engineered and bobs your uncle Brett
