About to do the dash wiring on a kit car and we need to wire in warning lights for the tail lights. Its a full custon instrument panel, lots of autometer guages ect so we dont have much info to work with.
Anyone know the wiring basics for warning lights? cheers |

i assume it is for a brake failure warning light?
on the side of the master cylinder you should find a plastic switch, when either the front or rear brake circuits fail, a shuttle inside the master cylinder moves, and it triggers the switch

brake warnign light is when the fluid runs out...
ie the cirut is "open" when there is fluid in the resevoir and will "close" when it drops too low ie complete the circut and allow current flow and turn the light on

Warning as in, it lets you know when a bulbs is blown? (ala Fairlane/LTD high series clusters) or one of those kits from jaycar that senses you pulling off the accelerator and flicks on the brake lights for you, shaving hundredths of the reaction time.

Sorry, blown bulb warning light... engineers says it needs one to comply with 2005 regs(?)

I think i know what you mean
I have no idea how the actual car ones are done however i don know a bit on circuit analysis. Current loves to flow around the path of less resistance. If you rig up a circuit that has your warning light with a big resistor, then when your tail lights blow the current will travel into your warning lamp illumintaing it. hahaha, funnily enough i can see problems with my own implementation, ie, ALL of your brake lights would need to fail before your warning lamp would light. maybe measure the resistance of your brake lighting circuit then choose a resistor that is marginaly bigger than this? anyone feel free to correct me.....
