G'day fellas,
During the summer, a mate and I gonna do a full custom setup on his corolla. This will involve:
2x 12" directed DVC subs (not the cheap ones)
2x Appropriate Directed Audio Amps
Splits and rears from directed audio as well!!!
Capacitors and wiring kits (guess who from?)

I have reasons for using directed audio so thats not really an issue. (might go Orion amps as they are owned by directed)

Anyway, we'll be fibreglassing his entire boot so as to get a false floor going that can be lifted up to get to tools and amps and spare tyre. The amps will be covered in perspex so my main worry is that they will overheat. I want to use some small 80mm fans to keep air circulating over them. Now, my question (i know its about time) is.

How do I wire them up to the remote output of the deck so that they only run while the amps are on? (sorry my bad)

I was thinking of using some kind of relay that uses a signal voltage to switch the fans on. Any Ideas of model numbers? I'm gonna go to jaycar eventually but this might save me the trip.

um i cant see why you want them to run while the amps are off, if u want to run them while they are on, then use the remote as ur +ve, otherwise u can use some pretty trippy electronics, pm me if u want some help, but i can suggest the use of a switch, where u can turn the fans on when u want them on. easy. but i would like to say that i think you need to rethink your cooling idea, just have the fans on when the amps are on, with an rc timing cct. so that once the cars off, the fans keep going for a while to disperse the heat.

yer my exact thinking????
wtf

and why cover the amps in perspex? or do u mean to make a cover out of perspex that fits over teh amps and leaves room for air flow?

this is easy
any standard relay will do the job.
a relay has 4/5 pins

power
ground
remote/trigger
and output(x2 in case of 5 pin)

connect power and ground as appropriate, this connect the remote relay pin to stereo remote ouput, and connect the fans to the relay output.

this draws current from the power source, rather than the remote source.
i cant remember pin numbers sorry :s

Just any relay from autobarn will be able to switch a couple of fans no problem. 5a one will do the job...

hahaha, like your topic title there

i use to have neons runnin in the same fashion (ie, off my amp remote line)

just use any old relay, if yer near a jaycar store then this one would be fine...CAT. NO. SY4070

its way overkill at about 30A, but if you wish to add lighting or other things later itll take whatever you want

wiring diagrams are normaly provided in the pack
