Due ti some people here not liking the hub caps I have (evil bastards  ), I am considering upgraidng 17s.

But what does 205 and 17x7.5 mean?

What do most people run here?

standard profile for 17's are 235/45/17

17 x 7.5 is the size of the rim (17 inch) x width (7.5 inch)

with wider the rim, the bigger the rubber that can fit on it! but in general, most 17" rims from any tyre shop will be between 17 x 7 & 17 x 8, and be running 235/45 tyres! :P

235 is the width of the tyre - the higher the number, the wider the tyre, 45 is the tyre-wall height - the lower the number, the lower the profile.

At the risk of sounding stupid, will 17s fit straight on.

I confused about adapters and spacers and s**t like that.

depends on the offset of the rim!

you need to ask the tyre shop if whatever rim you're looking @ will fit e-series offset! :)

The 205 part is the width in millimetres, the /65 part is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width (ie, on a 205/65 the sidewall is 65% of 205mm high) and the last number is the wheel size in inches, ie 15,16,17.
