Today I went and had a look at some 6.5 inch 150 watt RMS (i think) soundstream splits and a 4 channel X 120 watt amp for my EL XR8. The speakers were $800 (a pair) retail and the amp was around about $500 or so.

Does anyone know whether these would be any good as I've never came across this brand before and they are a lot of money to pay if they are crap.

The sales guy managed to talk me into a $50 deposit on layby but I can still get something else if you guys think that these wouldn't do the job.

I've got sound stream in my car, I paid $2500 for a full system and it sounds great. My mate paid more for his system (earthquake) and he thinks mine is better.

What model soundstream?

They have some very nice gear (exact series ad others) and some middle of the road stuff too.
$800 splits sound like the Exact ones which are very good. Retail is $999 but i think thats a little steep. I would be looking to get them for $700ish...

After looking into it a bit more I realised that the amp was a bit underpowered for the speakers so I changed it to the Michelangelo SMA4-680 amp.

The splits are the Tarantula TRC.6 ones. Does anyone know if these will actually fit in the front doors without having to make pods as I'm starting to have doubts. The mounting depth is approx 67mm. I don't mind having to make spacers as long as it still looks factory and doesn't hit the door skin when I turn it up.

What's the deepest speakers that you have fitted?
