I was gong to change my EF XR6 steering wheel to my brothers AU Falcon ute but instead of having 10mm bolts holding the airbag on its got 5 point anti tamper screws. Normally torq bits are 6 pointers but this stupid little screw had a 5 point head.
Is the tool for the AU airbag attachment bolts a Ford specific tool or can you actually get 5 point torq bits?
If you can get them where abouts can you get them?

what I can tell you is, you are looking for "5 Point Security Torx Plus" Sorry no idea where you can get them.

This link is from the manufacturer, it seems they have a restriction on who can own the drivers.

you should be able to get one from your Ford dealer, dont expect it to be cheap though.

Well thats bollocks. Why do they make that if they limit who they will sell it to? I'm sure Ford would charge over $50 for those bits.
Damn damn damn. How is average joe supposed to work on cars when they f**k him around like this.

Thanks guys. Above rant was not at you.

Use an allen key dude, If you have a full kit of metric and imperial allen keys (hex keys) you will find one that fits in there good enough to remove the bolts. Cant remember what size it is but i have dont it twid\ce before and was sucesfull bot thimes using this method!

have fun!

My local auto tool place sells the torx bits for these, I am fairly sure that repco, bevics and the likes sell them too. I only paid $15 for mine a couple of months ago.

Allen key wont work. In the centre of the bit is a spigot. You need to have the proper tool.
Repco I've been to and they didnt have it.

Ahh well I guess my brother has to put up with the s**t worn out deteriorated steering wheel.

Drill the f**k out and put standard bolts in it.

The reason they introduced these tamperproof bolts is to prevent unauthorised servicing (backyard mechanics) of airbags, emission systems etc. Dirty little f**k trying to keep all the work for themselfs.

generally the idea was to create a tamper proof torx bolt and only have ford dealers have the tool as with everything these things tend to fnd there way into other hands. you wont find many people with them but if you were down here in melb weve got the correcttorx bit for it.
