I am just wondwering as I am in the next cpl of weeks going to replace my CPFI on my EA to an AU intake will my current ECU be able to run it.
If it cannot what ECU should I look at buying. I will hopefully have enough money saved by the middle of next year for an aftermarket one but atm I am looking for a sort of quick fix. I have found two different ones at the wreckers both from an EL one is the standard ECU and the other is out of a XR6 Police car both are for an auto as mine is an auto too. is there much difference between the two. Any help with this will be appreciated. |

Well.. provided you can afford it, the police XR6 ecu is the way to go..
But having said that - you say you're upgrading a CPFI manifold - So you're doing a MPFI conversion? If you're asking about just the Broadband manifold side of it (not multipoint injection) then either EL ECU will be able to handle it. |

Hi,
EL or AUI ECU are your best choices. You'll also need to get your ignition system 'smartlock' ready, or figure out how to bypass smartlock. If you can live without the EF/EL/AU 'BBM' inlet manifold, and instead using a EA-ED style MPEFI manifold, you can use the Pre 10/92 ECU's from the EB's, as they dont use smartlock

I don't know if i will use the BBM or not but if i do it is easily wired up through using a shiftlight trigger to activate it. what would the benefits be if between using it and not using it.

Dont activate it using a RPM trigger. Switching between the short and long runners in the BBM also require fuel and ignition map changes - hence why i suggested using the appropriate ECU (EF/EL/AU1) to run it. These ECU's have been tuned with the BBM in mind. Start with the EA-ED manifold, you'll love the performance and economy gains moving to MPEFI. You will save alot of issues with Smartlock also. If you're still hungry for power after, get a cam or look at forced induction.

I am currently gettin bits & pieces for a turbo setup and decided to use the AU manifold as I have it lying around and thought it would be better than the MPFI ones is it that much difference between istallin a AU one than a EA-ED one?

Yes, you will need to do a full smartlock conversion, using an EL ECU.

May I also add that the EA-ED style manifolds are favoured for boost applications due to the larger plenum volume and runner arrangement.

Yes, for 2 reasons a) no need for smartlock conversion b) better suited to boost applications

so seen as my ECU is for the CPFI intake would it be able to control the MPFI one

No, you will need a EA MPEFI or EBI MPEFI (non-smartlock) ECU. That said, if you are going boost, you would be better off with an aftermarket ECU anyhow.

Once turbo is fitted the short runners are only used ..But its much easier to use mulypoint E/A to ED manifolds..
BUT??...Then when fitting an aftermarket ecu with AU type inlet you could use the ecu to trigger the bbm to open at say?? 2 or so Lb boost ???? From one of its spare accessary drivers??
