G'day.......... My EF XR6 seems to be running a bit rich - hence the black smoke from the exhaust when i accelerate harder. It isnt that bad but its still evident. My exhaust system is "pacemaker headers, high flow cat, 1 muffler, 2.5 inch mandrel bent"...... Is there a way i can stop this black smoke. I heard someone mention something earlier about reseting the ECU - is this an option and how do you do it?

Cheers

Try doing a test, could be your O2 sensor.

I know the Oxygen sensor can be changed if thats the problem. But what about the MAP sensor - is that a changable part, or does it have to be reset like an ECU.

How do I run these tests on it to see what the problem is?

there is a step by step guide in the technical documents.
the map sensor is the little black box on the firewall on the passenger side has a hose going to the intake manifold.

It might be just a minor air leak to the vaccum hose to the map. It happen once on my wifes EF.

* It would be good if we start posting finding, prognosis, results & remedy to every thread we post.

There seems to be alot of "it might be" but no feed back from the original person that post the problem.

It would be helpful for the newbys to know as they can trace the problem according to your finding & how you fixed it.

a bit of black looking smokey stuff is normal under hard acceleration,,all carburettor vehicles do it and so do most fuel injected vehicles,,,the only time you have to worry about it is if it's all the time or you can't see through it..as in smoke screen,,
