recently got a manual conversion done on my ef... i times myself - amature way - (wid a stopwatch) and was getting mid to high 7's with the auto.. i was expecting the manual to be a little quicker..

when i do the same thing with the manual, im getting about the same, maybe a tiny bit slower 0-100

and its not that im bad wid da stick, caz ive been drivin manual for a long time, and i get better times with some other manual cars we got in the family..

acceleration seems so much quicker from 0-60, but after that.. the car seems to be lacking the push? anyone know whats the perfect rev range to be shifting at? maybe i was stretching her legs too much?

to 60, wont even need a gear change
to 100 you can stay in 2nd gear...
but watch the fuel guage go down

In a Falcon six a manuals a good 1/2 second quicker over the qtr mile and the 0-100kmh times shoud drop from about 8.5 to 7.5 seconds compared to a 4speed auto.

Timing yourself with a stopwatch probably isn't accurate enough to tell the difference.

At the drags I was passing the finish at 145-146kph in 3rd.
1st gear go to 60kph or thereabouts and then in 2nd go to about 100kph. You'll be leaving your auto way behind.

After I converted, I was amazed at the power difference. 2nd gear felt much the same as 1st in the auto.

I reckon it's got better acceleration all round. 8-)

i found at the strip 1st gear to 5500rpm 2nd gear to 5500 3rd to 5000
then carry 4th over the line as had the best times

Very good advice.
Even with the auto, from 2nd to 3rd I always give it a lift off at about 4500-4750 to force a shift up.
Unless you've got a cam, the 6's really do start to get breathless in the higher revs.
Not such a big deal in the shorter gears, but it can be beneficial to shortshift 4th, keep it in the meat of the power band.

youd have to look at the torque curves and figure it from there...

anyone got graphs of the torque curves?

power is 157kw @ 4900...rekon torque would fall off very fast after this....

(sad old 3.9 mpi is 139@4250!!! 4250! - tractor!)

optimum shift points can be worked out if you have a torque curve graph and know the gear ratios..

i have raced a mates 5sp EA (similer mods to mine), and he woops me of the line, he grabs second at a car length in front, but doesnt get any further away, when i grab secod(his third) im almoast equal with him.

but weve found on a rolling start(ie from 60-70) i whoop him.

P.s. all said and done, i do wish i had a manual, more fun to drive.
