Driving along yesterday, could hear a high pich noise from the rear turned on a roundabout and my efii 96 fairmont would rev but barely catching any gear. Turned it off and back on but would only drive up to 25kph on limb mode i believe? My car has done 265Kms, auto service 80,000 Kms previously. Could this be a coverter issue or any way the auto my still be repairable? Any suggestions appreciated guys, may have to get it checked as i may still be able to drive it. :? :(

...basically, sounds like you are low on transmission oil, if not there's none there.
It would slip gears without oil/insufficient oil, and limp home mode, means that it is in 3rd all the time, to get you home. This is engaged if it overheats, or of there's another sort of electrical problem. In your case I think it overheated from not enough fluid.

So in summary check your fluid.

Cheers

Hi guys, finally got my tranny fixed for $700.00 at a auto transmission service centre in Clayton. Drives really good, was told it had a few faulty parts and they replaced and should not have any problems. Was given 90 day warranty, hope it stays that way. Have learned to get the dam thing serviced more regularly. Thanks for your suggestions guys, much appreciated.
