No this is somewhere that I have also run into heated discussions about. The simple fact of the gear ratio between the stationary gear mounted to the front, intermediate and rear housings and the ring gear in the rotors is at 3:1 there fore the output shaft MUST rotate 3 times for every 1revolution of the rotor.
Anyhow. enough about this as we are on a ford site and ford never played with rotaries, however holden and chev did


It does make sense, with each rotor revolution there being three power strokes, for a twin rotor such as 12A and 13B that is six power strokes per revolution of the rotor pair. This brings it inline to what everyone else says about there being two power strokes per output shaft revolution.

No worries, I'm no expert by any means with rotors. One day I'll read up on them, also one day I wouldn't mind bunging one into an offroad buggy due to their light weight and small size.

Its good to see people here do appreciate other makes & models and dont just think their chosen car is gods gift to everybody.

yes but you can't have it.


just look around for old buggerd escorts, cortinas and capris. they all had the pinto.
but you would have to modify the the cortina and capri sumps to fit an escort.
cheap and easy to do pluss you increase the size from 3.25L to around 5L

yeh man im doin that. but there seems to be a shortage. we called a few wrecks but they wont pick up or there sold....

Dont know if anyone said this or not.. But
Get a set of Twin SU's. Properly tuned it can increase HP quite well :D

Advice from an old f@rt (or getting there pretty quickly)

Having owned an RX3 coupe with mild 13B I'd have to look back and say
it was a fun thing to drive(so long as you like sticking your head under the bonnet often) as a young fella and Im probably lucky I got older.

When I look back and remember the sensation of seeing that needle stick
at 200kmh and shees still pullin while going over those humps towards Point Cook it's a bloody miracle i got older.

Ask yourself what do you want a race car or a street car, the two are/should be very different things.

Sure build your esky into a beast but dont put plates on it save it for the track or strip.

Get your self a nice Falcon for the street one where you can turn on the aircon and actually hear the stereo while you cruise down the road in something that looks a s**t load better than an old malleys esky.

With 20/20 hidsight I'd have been better off with a V8 than a rotary.
Use less/same amount of juice, easier to tune and less of it, bigger, more comfortable, and the list goes on.

But being young at the time i had to learn the hard way, oh well.
