hi
im going to change the engine in my ea. my mate has a 40l from a nc fairlane it has only done 120,000 kms but the car hit a power pole in 1999 so some of the accesories are damaged... my question is the engine has been sitting under a car port for the last 6 years un covered . there is a bit of corosion in the throttle body but otherwise it looks good. do you think the engine will still be a good runner???????? |

Do you know if the engine had been started at all within the 6 years?

HI
no the engine hasnt been started sinse it hit the pole. we tried to start the car after the accident but the wiring was crushed.. so the engine was just pulled out and put where it sits today.. thanks |

best thing to do is to try to turn it over by hand with a socket on the crank pulley, to see if it's seized from corrosion. other than that, rubber seals may be damaged form not being lubricated for so long, and things like that, the only way you'll know is if you try.

remove all the spark plugs then try turning it. if it turns freely then it must be good. just remember that the bottom of the water jacket might be full of solidified rust. best thing to do is pull it apart & inspect it.

also put some oil down the spark plug to stop bores getting scored.
should be ok though. clean everything out though |
