I went down to ARB in Dandenong because someone mentioned they picked up an Optima Yellow Top for $350. So I went in and asked for the Yellow Top D34 and mentioned a "friend came in a couple of weeks ago and grabbed one for $350" and that it wasn't for a dual battery setup. So the guy gives Optima a call and asks what battery is suitable for my Falcon rah rah...

Strangely enough, the Optima fellow suggest a Blue Top?!! Same model number etc, but definitely suggests a Blue Top - the marine type.. So I was like, "hhmmmm??" Every other person I've spoken to or heard from suggested the Yellow Top whilst a few say the Red Top.

So apparently it's virtually the same but can be charged in a third of the time. 750cca and 55amps. So if it has this benefit and is basically identical, why would they even sell Red/Yellow Tops if the marine ones are so great? Now, can someone help me out here? Should I try this Blue Top or specifically request a Yellow Top?

I've had a look at the specs at www.optimabatteries.com.au and everything seems to be identical except for the terminals. The Blue Top has two extra (smaller) terminals.

He gets a price of $395 that I am still skeptical about, so I might ask if he can get it for $350. That is kind of my limit at the moment. No matter how good they are, $400 could get me four batteries.

BTW, he was a really friendly guy and spent ages explaining (or trying to) the differences.

Your proberly thinkg of me; i went down ther en got one not too long ago.

I am not sure of which is better blue top or yellow top, but i have read on CAA i think that there is no difference in the two models you are looking at other than they connections on top.

The guy I spoke to there knew heaps n more than I would expect n he rekons he uses the yellow tops in his 4WD which he used for whinch towing comps in which he could pull another 4wd up a vertical incline without his 4wd started up for 6hrs + n then start witho no issues.

I was sold on the yellow top.

Today ive had the car running the stereo in the car (by accident) also powering screen n junk for good 5 hrs after last 13days of no driving and it started like a rocket again.

Dont think I helped you, but im happy customer here.

Hmm yeah sounds about right. He went on about winching etc and that his mate has two Blue Tops in his 4WD etc etc.

How did you get them down to $350? I think I will stick with the Yellow Top - I don't think I need the extra terminals LOL!

Not to sure about the difference, but seeing as everyone is going the Yellow Top, i'll be going the same too.

Try asking for the Optima D75, this is the model number made to suit Falcons.

Cheers

i have ordered a Blue top dual terminal for a customer d34m which i will get tomorrow, will let you know of trade prices.

these batterys are the s**t as far as im concerned. well worth the extra money. I recently started a customers car that was sitting for 5 months while the engine was being rebuilt without even charging it! normal batts would be flat in a week.

Mate that would be awesome. I need to decide on a battery soon, so if you could get me some prices that'd be cool. I might go for the Blue Top afterall.

BTW, I'm about 10 minutes from Bayswater! Oh, and proud to be Dynamic White too heheh!
