hi all
not to sure which forum to put this in. i have an anoying problem that started after i put in a new fuel filter last weekend. after i put the filter in i noticed the exhaust note had be come quieter, thought that the ecu was just adapting to easier fuel flow as the filter was fairly old. but now if i accelerate i cant go past 3000rpm, it feels like it is loosing fuel, the car starts jerking and the speed starts dropping off. if i only accelerate to about 2000rpm its seems fine. not so much a problem in the city, but as i do a lot of highway driving it is anoying as i cant over take unless there is a huge gap, and if i have to go up a hill i need to hoon it before the hill otherwise i have to crawl up it. now almost a week later (500kms) the problem seems to be getting worse and the exhaust seems to be getting quieter each day. i am putting a new fuel regulator in ont the weekend and doing a transmission filter and oil change. i might pull the exhaust apart to see if there is a blockage if i get time. i am running out of ideas here. i have a: 95 EF futura auto jmm dev5 head jmm 5a cam jmm race extractors modified au cat custom pressbent 2.5" exhaust with single muffler, no resinators. 3" mandrel bent intake k&n panel filter stock ecu any help would be appreciated thanks simon

So when ur driving... as long as u keep it around 2000rpm your fine... but as soon as you go over that the car loses power? if thats the case it could be your transmission lacking fluid. this happened to a mate of mine.. as soon as he went over 80kph (2000rpm on his car), the car would surge a bit and drop power until it went under 2000rpm. i'm not sure if its the same problem as yours but no harm in checking

Hi all,
Quote: Well it started as soon as you put the filter on. It's not on backwards is it or not on properly? Ben Thats the first thing i checked. Quote: fuel pump maybe??? I hope not it was replaced about 1 year ago with a brand new one. i will pull it out on the weekend and check it out. Thanks for all the responses Simon

Maybe you've picked up a dodgy filter.

UPDATE
hi all, well not i am very happy, the car is now almost undriveable. but i thinki may have found the problem This weekend i have done and transmission oil and filter change, new fuel pressure regulator, change spark plugs, done a spark jump test, rechecked base idle, found a vaccum leak and fixed that. but the problem is still there. The car wont rev past 3500rpm while sitting in park. i decided to take the rocker cover off to see if any springs were broken, turned the engine over by hand to make sure all valves were opening. put it to TDC and then i saw the problem. the harmonic balencer was at TDC but the cam sprocket mark is approx 5mm above the edge of the head. Looks like a streched timeing chain is causing all the problems . Quote: So this started imediately afte changing the filter? It definately wasn't like it before? Maybe you've picked up a dodgy filter. i have replaced the fuel filter with another one, made no differance. Quote: where do u fill up? bad fuel?
i usually fill up at BP with ultimate, but i filled up once this week with 98ron vortex. Thanks again for the responses. simon
