Hi all,
With the past days being stinkers in wollongong, i've decided to finally get my yoo-beauut climate control working on my EBI fairmont. (never worked, never really tried, always used it in manual mode for some air flow in the car).

when i bought this bomb, it came without an AC compressor belt, and a f**ked tensioner pully, so i replaced them, but im out of refridgerant so I guess that was a bit uneccessary, but still i shorted the sensor and the compressor worked so i know theres no problem with air conditioning.

anyway, my main problem is, whatever temp I set the climate control to, it always blows air straight through, fan speed isnt a problem, just doesnt seem to make a difference whether I want cool or warm air.
putting the CC in diag mode shows E5 - Ambient sensor problem, is this the cause of the problem? I cant find the bloody thing so im guessing its not there anymore, if anyone can give me some instructions where im likely to find it, and its connector, maybe even a pic? would help heaps!

Radiator upper panel on the EA's and Series 1 EB's.

This shouldn't be the cause of your problem. In the event of a failure or it being disconnected, the system reverts to a default input of 20 degrees, from that sensor anyway, but the rest of the system should work fine..........assuming that is the only problem!

yeah thats what I thought, should still be giving me warm air when i stick it upto 32 degrees.

*Sigh* guess im in for some more investigating, anymore ideas what could be causing the lack of heat? i've had a slight overheating problem but ive flushed the radiator and topped her back up and its seemed to have fixed it.

Could be a stuffed heater tap or blocked heater core. Blend door motor would be the other possible one, but then if it was that you should be getting an error code for that as well if it were the problem. E2 from memory!

HOPE it's the heater tap as that is definately the cheapest and easiest thing that can go wrong there!

Also...check for mounting and wiring at cabin temp sensor ( behind clock panel). If the sensor is not properly mounted then it can read a higher temp from the air inside the dash......... resulting in the CC thinking the cabin temp is already high enough! Alternatively it can short out......and I don't think this shows up in the diagnostic!

Check the vacuum on the heater tap too. The hose could be split or just not connected which wont allow the heater tap to open.

Not to be contradictory......but I think the default setting for the tap is open. I am pretty sure (99.9%) that vacumn closes the tap, stopping flow through the heater core!

okay took another good look, still couldnt find the ambient sensor, methinks the tard mechanic got rid of it when this thing got a new radiator, previous owner was a lady so she wouldn't have noticed the difference.

put the CC in monitor mode, cabin sensor works fine (went from 21 to 22 and back down while fiddling with the CC). monitor shows the blend door and heater valve open, but i've yet to physically check them. Which vacuum line connects to the valve? would it be the turquoise/green one? i noticed it was off but i could have knocked it off myself while investigating/feeling the lines around the valve.

Wow.....what is monitor mode? I've never heard of it and how do you put it in monitor mode?

You learn something new every day!!!

Assuming i've read correctly, monitor mode shows up all the readings and what not your CC is giving, so you can check whether the reading is correct, or if anything like the temp blend door isnt opening fully (gives out a percentage reading).

The instructions are all here in the Technical documents:
http://fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=9

to enter monitor mode (with ignition on):

Press the “Recirculateâ€￾, “Face/Floorâ€￾, and “AUTOâ€￾ Buttons together
Release the “Recirculateâ€￾, “Face/Floorâ€￾, Buttons together and the “AUTOâ€￾ Button Last.

It let me check my cabin sensor reading without even touching the dash (apart from the buttons) :D

Okay got it up on ramps and checked the heater water valve and vacuum on it, the green tube does go to it, and it is working fine, i tested it physically, checked the hoses, they are definately getting water through, and the vacuum closes it up when the CC is set to lower temps.

now i'm getting a little scared cause im thinking its a blocked heater core, and even though im not a stranger to pulling parts off the dash to install things (audio components, switches etc) this will definately be the biggest pull-apart job i've done, might wait for the old man to come home before i attempt pulling the heater assembly off.

well I just realised i can check for a blockage by disconnecting the outflow hose.

which was running out a nice colour of coolant mixture.

Any more ideas?

Really there is no a lot more that it could be apart from blend door not moving.

Whether or not that is as a result of a dodgy sensor somewhere or the blend door itself not moving....who know's.

One other question, what is your engine coolant temp running at?

I've just tried it again (with the dash half out too mind you), and the coolant temp was around mid 80's, cabin sensor was showing 29 and with it on 32 warmish air was actually blowing out. maybe i've touched something and its working now? who knows.

I think i'm gonna put everything back together and try it again later when the cabin temp is showing something much lower so I can feel the warmer air coming out.
