hey guys,
ever since ive bought the car, ive been having trouble with the climate control (the manual one found in the GLI's, not that fancy fairmont/ghia ones) basically, no matter what temp i set it to on the slider bar, the air always pushes out warm... no cool air comes through the vents unless i use aircon, which shuts off every now and again as if its hit the lowest temp in the cabin, but its not even cold when it shuts off!! coming into summer, this could be a problem, any suggestions? cheers dave

I've just spent the day mucking about with my CC, and even though its an upmarket ghia one, same stuff might apply for you.
heres the thread: {DESCRIPTION} lack of cold air probably means air con needs gassing, and the lack of control over hot air is probably the blend door motor not working properly. maybe check the heater tap and the vacuum that controls it, check that it switches off when you have the AC turned down (by default it sticks open).

the heater tap in the engine bay could be stuck open or the heater control has a vacum leak .the heater tap in down under the intake manifold get someone to watch the tap and you slid the temp control up and down and see if it opens

Low series don't have a blend door motor, they have a mechanical connection to the HVAC controls, but I think the blend door may well be the problem.
Pull your glove box out and have a look at the blend door actuator on the front of the air box. See if that moves when you move the heater slide and listen for the blend door moving in the air box. If it is working you should be able to hear the blend door moving. Heater tap is open as a default so a vac leak could be causing the heater tap to stay open, but the blend door closing off the heater core to the passing air should negate that problem if it is one.
