my bro just brought an XF S-PAC. lowered, new tyres (225's all round) mags, blah, blah, blah...$750.
anyway it has a severe steering problem, it pulls all over the road. not lie a wheel alignment but something worse (wheel alignment usulay only pulls oneway, this pulls EVERYWAY) just wondering if there was a common fault in these...or if you guys know what else it could be??

Just wondering how low the dront end is? I had a mate with an XF so low at the front that it only had 30mm of suspention travel AT THE WHEEL. He had a similer problem of poor handling untill he modified the bump stops.

Could still be a wheel alignment.
Toe-out will make it uber touchy. Great for highspeed turn in, not so good for keeping a car going straight on a straight road... Get the alignment checked, it's usally only like $50, check the tire pressures, get the wheels balanced, and if it's still there, there could be a more significant problem going on.

Bumb steer. Most XF's suffer from it as well. Anyway hows the steering is there heaps of play? i.e. can you turn the car a fair bit either way and the car still goes straight? Mine was like that and I needed a new steering box but didn't have the time to change it so I got rid of the car.

steering box by the sounds of it mine did the same thing you would be going in a straight line and it would pull left then right then left etc...

thats excactly what ist doing. how hard and expencive is this to fix? i will try wheel balance and alignment first, but something tells me that aint it. and whats a pitmen arm??

You can wind the grub screw in on the steering box a certain amount.
It takes the play out of the box, but you can only do it for so long, as it gets play again. If you turn your steering wheel lightly, and the front wheel/tyre dsen't move, that will be your problem. Check your bushes also.

Also check the stearing idler arm. This is a classic symptom associated with idler arm bush wear.
The idler arm is the one that "matches" the pitman arm on the left hand side of the car. Bushes are available. There are two required and they are different. You can press the old ones out and the new ones in using "sockets" and a reasonable vice. Jack the front wheels off the ground and get someone to attempt to turn the wheels and look at all the stearing joints. You should be able to identify where the lost motion is. Note if the pitman arm is floating up and down. This could indicate that the stearing box needs adjusting. If you make any adjustment to the stearing box remember to check that you have full movement lock to lock without binding. Remember if you get under it make sure that you have safety stands in place.!!!! Examine the tyres. Wear on the inside of the tyre indicates excesive toe-out and wear on the outside indicates excessive toe-in. XFSteve

ok, i talked to the guy who we bought the car off today and he said to tighten the bolt under the right wheel arch (with allen key locknut) only i dont know how to check if i tighten it enough?

what you do is slightly undo the big nut.
then wind the grub-screw in till you can feel it touch, don't go any more than that. then lock the big nut up, making sure the grub screw dosen't twist too. If there is still play after, i'd get a new box.
