What are they out of ??
They look like pretty huge LEDs, although it could be just the pic, it's hard to tell the scale... I suppose they could also have a 50 million little LEDs inbehind each of those lenses though...

"almost as bright as a xenon projector" would still be brighter than my existing lights!
Also, is there any difference between a xenon projector and a halogen projector ? (other than what size bulbs they're made to take ?)

edit: haha datamine, you're a must-have LED freak like me
I go home to the missus and say hey look at these new LEDs I just got and she just rolls her eyes. I tell her they're kinda like diamonds, but she doesn't see it :P

yeah, I'm a LED freak, my 2AA mini maglight runs a 1W Luxeon LED.

My interior is filled with the 8mm LEDs you sent me. I just prefer the whiter light that incandescant bulbs just can't produce. A reason I'm interested in HIDs too.

Correct.
That is a multi-lens projector.
A really cool looking projector. Optically, the output is a little bit lacking. Most headlamps would not have enough room to fit such a large projector.

The main issue here is to create a LEGAL Beam Pattern.

As we all know (and if you didn’t, now you know), LEDs are not the best when it comes to emit a perfect light pattern as a normal dedicated Halogen or Xenon bulb.
Not even Halogen or Xenon bulbs are meant to emit an acceptable and roadworthy beam pattern.

To create such beam pattern, all sources of light need some help and guidance from a Reflector.

The difference between Halogen and Xenon Projectors are the patterns and groves cut in their reflectors to guide the beam emitted in the right direction to create a legal and user friendly beam pattern on the road.

Using a Halogen Projector with a Xenon bulb in it, is exactly the same as using one of these after market Xenon Kits with your Halogen reflectors.
It will create a Perfectly WRONG beam pattern.

I have explained a bit more on about these issues on the HID headlights thread.

Well, here's a warning to the punters at home - I just f*cked one of my new headlights good and proper :(

These aftermarket ones much be made out of different plastic to the factory ones because I had them in the oven for the same amount of time only this time they melted everywhere.

Crap!

Why is everything available on the aftermarket s**t?

Is it really hard to make something that fits / is right?

no, but it's more expensive. Not as expensive as Fraud spares woul dhave you beleive, but more so than what these aftermarket people are charging. (there's also economies of scale at play here)

I got the set for a bargain - $128 delivered, but it'll cost me $80 to get just the one replacement :(

WOW! I started reading this thread as my headlights are WAY out of alignment, and I've been filled with new ideas!

Apart from all the experimentation here, is there any step-by-step guides for A) the LED parkers and B) Transplanting better globes/systems ?

Is there anyone on these forums prepared to do these types of mods for a nominal fee ? (Buy parts for $A $B and $C, give to person Y and pay $X and hey presto, I can bolt in new headlights).

How easy is it to tell the originals from the after-market lights ? I replaced both my units from a shop called "Taxi's R US", they did it as a change-over, so I'm pretty sure my lights are "reco's" and its quite possible one is a Ford original, and one is a clone.

What, so I can have 5 EF headlights in my collection ? :P

How are the lenses ? If they're perfectly clear I might think about it, but I'd rather have shiney new ones...
