Hi all.
I use a mechanical gauge to check oil pressure on my engine. It is marked in PSI. Unfortunately, most of the discussion surrounding oil pressure on the falcons is in terms of the factory electronic gauges.. i.e. "well, it gets almost down to the red zone, but then comes about half way up if i rev the motor etc etc" Can anyone provide guidance on helathy oil pressure in terms of an actual pressure rating... preferably in PSI? Is there a general rule of thumb with all engines? Also - more importantly, what is too low or too high? Cheers Martin

Generally you should see 40-50psi at idle on the 5L windsors. I have been told that an absolute minimum is 10psi per 1000rpm otherwise you are in trouble.

Excellent, thanks for the advice grant. I guess heat/viscosity etc play a part but the lowest i see on a hot day is around 40psi @ idle... but i dont think the oil im using at the moment is terribly stable...

Yeah heat and oil viscocity will effect pressure but as long as you are seeing a 40psi minimum you are fine IMO. I would have thought that 40psi would be around 1/3rd on the factory guage seeing thats where most that I have seen sit at idle, maybe your guage or sensor is a bit touchy.

Nah, no factory gauge on my low spec EF hence the mech gauge when checking. Thanks again grant.
