Each to their own, but i've never had a bearing fail front or rear in 25 years. Always inspect them though.

I'm getting my Lucas Pads tomorrow - these worked Great in the R33 Skyline with standard rotors... can't wait to try them on my EL with DBA Slotted! IMHO Lucas pads are about as good as EBC Green-Stuff, with better cold bite and less dust. They never stop stopping until they are FUBAR! No fade... nothing (these were on Skyline though - haven't test on heavier EL with ABS) (yes I'll go easy for the bed-in period) Lucas Pads from ABS... ~$55 - Front ~$50 - Rear Thanks all! |

I had never had any trouble with wheel bearings before either, a couple of weeks ago my old mans AU II fairlane had a horrible squealing noise coming from the front left, when we took it down to ford to be looked at they told us it would be a wheel bearing and that it was quite common. After the bearing was replaced they test drove it and told us that the right one was also nearly buggered also so they replaced it also. The car had only done 95,000kms.

Ive owned 2 cars and both have had wheel bearings go.. Go figure!
Both Fairlanes at 120,000kms and not long ago at 98,000kms. Noticed a general quieter drive when replaced also.

Lucas pads = not bad stopping BUT HEAPS of dust especially on mag wheels Yesterday I fitted Slotted front rotors new bearings new Bendix Performax pads ( poor cold stopping at first but Much less dust and better pedal feel) Braided flexible brake hoses (all round) and a brake fluid change to dot 5 fluid. very satisfying effort.

In 11 cars i've owned I never have had to replace a wheel bearing. Saying that now I will probably have one fail soon. Changing them certainly saves cleaning them up to regrease them.
