hi all,

ive got an AU XR8 and on cold start up it seems to give off a loud ticking noise, i cant seem to work out where its coming from, it disappears after warming up and doesnt seem to happen again...anyone got an answer for me?

Tappets!!! Change your oil and filter...Often...

Yep..
The dirtier/thicker your oil is, the longer it takes for your lifters/tappets to fill with oil..

yep tappets mine does the same thing its a windsor thing run synthetic oil like red line or if dollars are a problem like the fellas said change ur mineral oil often (5000kms). :D

Thanks for your help guys, i'll try to get her in to have the prob fixed within the next couple of days. (umm no i dont know how to change oil and stuff! :oops: , anyway some people get paid to do that :wink: )

So you don't realy know what oil they're putting in then ???
Thats the main reason I do it myself...
That way I know $80+ worth of oil is going in!!!
Hmmm hi capacity sumps!!!

Also on my AU1 XR8 there is a ticking sound that comes from the left hand front gaurd when it's cold.

But thats's something to do with the anti polution and nothing to worry about, it's very common.

I heard an AU V8 Fairmont doing exactly the same thing the other day.

Yep its the purge solinoid..From charcole canister...
Cable tie it off metal inner guard ..

you absolute legend that solinoid s**t me on my xr ive never even looked at it coz i didnt think it could be fixed a 20 cent cable tie thanks champ im going outside now to do it cheers :P
