hi all
Is it fair to assume that all XF's with a 5 speed manuel gearbox with a 4.1 motor are a T5 gearbox?

um sorry boys... no
only the latest xf's came with t5's..
the early models came with a borgwarner 5spd (bw-0507) which was a single rail with an extension housing bolted on.. this box was crap. built for a 4cyl, sigma i believe??

the easiest way to tell if you dont know what each box looks like is the older box has a big "5" stamped on the side of the middle casing where as the t5 doesnt.. also if the box has a bellhousing attached the clutch fork for a t5 comes out on the left (passenger side) where as the bw-0507 comes out on the left (this interferes witth the CAT on unleaded models...

t5 is a far superior box, stronger with better internals and better gearing,, however they are harder to find..

cheers

I just havent had much joy with the t5's meself. And i was under the impression it was the xe's with the BW 5 spds. I may be getting confused with later xf utes tho with the t5's. Please enlighten me

the xf's came with bw0507's until they went unleaded, they changed the box to accomodate the cat,,, you can definately get a xf sedan stock with a t5...

i havent had any trouble with t5's,, if your worried or running big power, get an el xr6 t5, and an xf bellhousing or maybe even an au box??

it's not the power issue with the t5's i've had dramas with, it's just I forever seen to be pullin them down and doin syncros. Not just one car tho, i'm on to about the 6th one, all 1st gear.

dont know about your synchro issue, but with the 5 speed boxes, the weak one was supposedly only fitted to the 200 cube 6's..... they dont seem to agree with the 250's

What interceptor said.

The 5 Speed BW box was only offered with 200's (3.3l) as it wasnt up to the torque of the 250(4.1).

Cheers

The BW box wasn't strong enough for the 3.3 motor either. One good dump the of clutch and its all over.
