im looking at getting a new bootlid, my one question is, my fairmont is smartlock and is also running an after market alarm system as well. do i need to get a bootlid from the same model spec to retain the electric boot unlock function?

Im fairly sure all falcons have electric boot release? Definately S pac and above

so even if i knocked off a gli bootlid i should still be safe?

Yes even GLi's (in EF/EL at least) have elkectric boots.

all vehicles with smartlock will have elec boot release.
thats why the remotes have 2 buttons
