i just got my car back from a local mechanic(first time there) to get some heater hoses replaced. When paying the bill he gave me list of things that needed to b done.

1)head gasket replacement (has a leak)
2)bell housing welsh plug replacment

These jobs r gunna cost me $1250!
Could some1 explain to me in detail how to check myself so i know if they r trying to rip me off. also i changed the oil 2 weeks ago no milkyness and checked the oil 3 days ago and again no milkyness.
cheers guys

When a head gasket fails it can fail in several differant ways. Not always resulting in water in oil milkyness. They often fail between the water jacket holes and the outside resulting in no effect in performance just a subtle coolant leak.

$1250 not that bad, considering the head gasket will cost around $700-$900
& the rear welsh plug requires the tranny to be removed.

I there were no repercussions from running it with the gasket like that I wouldn't change it either.
