I though I might put up a post on oil filter canister interchangeability. Some people might find this handy for a cheaper replacement, oddball engine swap or some other reason.
All filters are Ryco part numbers. Z9 interchanges with Z10. Z10 is a short canister version used on Toyota diesels and should work if a oil sandwich adaptor is being fitted and clearance is an issue. Z9 replaces Z115. I have not tried the other way. Z9 is a 3/4" thread and the Z115 is a 19mm thread. Apparently sticking a Z115 onto a Z9 thread can come loose (I doubt this). Z115 is used on the TD42 Nissan Motor (GQ Patrol and equivilent Ford Maverick). Z411 interchanges with Z56B. Z411 is a smaller canister version of Z56B. Common for Mitsubishi 4G and 6G motors. Z411/Z56B replaces Z142A I have only tried it this way. Z142A is normally specified on the early Mitsubishi powered Hyundai vehicles. Should reverse. Z411/Z56B replaces Z145A I have only tried it this way around. An important note is that the Z411/Z56B threads on loosely but does tighten up so use with caution. I have never had one come off. Apparently Z79 interchanges with Z411/Z56B. Haven't tried this so can't confirm. Note some of the larger canisters will foul not allowing fitting when replacing a smaller canister. This will normally be visably obvious. There is a couple of others I can't think right now of but if there is interest I'll put them up later on. |
