I'm wondering what the deal is with the timing chain tensioner when changing the head in my EF (fittign the 94DT one). I didn't touch it when I fitted the Wade cam last time (is that bad lol?).
Is it just a matter of using a 3mm alan key to loosen it then remove head then 3mm alan key to tighten it after refitting head?

Don't want it ending up like Tims...

You gotta pull the whole tensioner out. Pull the bolt out then use strong long nose pliers to undo the rest of it and pull it out, (then you can pull the head off) then use the 3mm allen key to pull the tensioner back so the when you put the head back on just whined the tensoiner back in and release it and replace the bolt.

Its a lot easier to do than describe.

If you have the ford tool, or you have a 3mm key *with a plastic sleeve on its outside* as per Gregories etc you can *easilly* loosen the tensioner without removing it.
You need the sleeve on the outside though (leaving a couple of mm protruding) so that you can press the tensioner in slightly while retracting it.
I used a cut-down ballpoint pen as the sleeve. Worked a charm.
