Its been doing this for ages now and now I'm on holidays I'm gonna try and trouble shoot this bastard of a thing.
If anyone in Perth has a spare throttle position sensor I require the use of it for about 10 minutes. Also a EF XR6 manual ECU to see if that is stuffed if the TPS change doesnt work. If those two things dont work then I think maybe the timing chain maybe stretched and will go into a mechanics workshop. Might even change the oxygen sensor first. Definately not the idle speed controller because that was already changed by Scotty and didnt fix the problem. So if anyone can lend us a part which they will get back I just need to see which part is causing this problem. When I got the car the idle and revs were perfect and I'd never felt a car that was that responsive. But now its a pig with idle and revs up to 2500-3000rpm. |

I replaced my Oxy sensor and was amazed at how much better the car idled. I only replaced it because of an ECU error code, but didn't realise how much smoother it was.
According to the bloke at the auto shop, Bosch say you should replace your oxy sensor every time you replace your spark plugs.

Thanks to Uglybob for supplying a trial fit TPS. It wasnt that either.
On the way back I forgot to connect the oxy sensor back up and I didnt notice anything different from the way it normally was, so I think the oxy sensor might be stuffed. Thanks again to Uglybob who also supplied a trial fit oxy sensor too. See how that goes later on the this arvo when the engine cools down. |

Not the oxygen sensor either.
So its not ISC TPS Oxy sensor. I'm now thinking either ECu, crank angle sensor, timing chain elongated or I've got no f**k clue. I think I'm gonna go to a mechanic now. Ierace Autmotive. They only do Fords here in Perth so best to try them. |

i'm guessing that he's talking about the "distributor" as such on the ef's. there is a sensor/distributor aswell as the coil pack. it is in the normal place of a dizzy - the front of the block under number 1 cylinder i believe.
hope this bodgy description helps

Its just it feels sluggish and and idles badly even though it has never stalled it has come close. |

Well Jackal and Sim if you guys ever figure out what is the problem you are required to post back here.
Somehow I've got to talk the wife into taking the XR8 to work and let me have the XR6 so I can take it to a mechanic during the holidays. Thats 3 of us with the same problem and its not an easy fix by the sound of it. |

known faults for ef's with idle probs
isc solenoid packs a sad and takes the pcm down with it if you use breakout box you can measure the voltage output from the pcm for the isc circuit the voltage should be battery voltage koeo and 8-10 volts koer if the voltage output is alternator charge out rate when koer the pcm will be stuffed also seen a transmission pump porous and causing the engine to have low reves and stall due to cross feeding maybe this will help maybe not |
