Trying to diagnose an annoying squeal coming from my motor, I took off the belts one by one and it remained even after I took off all 3!
What is causing this do you think, and how do I fix it.
My guess is harmonic balancer :(

Oh and if I spray a bit of WD40 around the base of the harmonic balancer it goes away for a few seconds.

Hmmm... harmonic balancer just a weight so not sure why it would squeal... maybe the oil seal in the timing gear cover??

Water pump maybe... My water pump is f**k and it makes belt squeel despite greasing up the belts a few times.

Nah, its only a couple of months old, and I took the belt off from it - so it wasn't moving. None of the accessories, belts or pulleys were.

there was a thread a while back guys saying it was the starter motor not disengaging fully after start up, grinding against the flywheel.

There's an interesting concept, considering my starter motor cracked and fell out due to one bolt mod, so I put the bolt in the other hole.... lol.
