I have noticed a few times this last week that my Low Coolant warning lamp has come on for maybe 10 seconds or so then gone back off. I went and checked the coolant level and it was above the minimum mark but I filled it up to maximum just to be sure. The Low Coolant light still came on again the next day for a brief moment then went off again. I checked the coolant level and it's still at maximum.
Could it just be the sensor mounted in the side of the tank is a bit faulty or might there be another cause for this momentary warning?

yes faulty sensor, or more precise it has corosion stuck to it, they have magnet so collect little bits of metal over time can cause them to go faulty (well give false alarms), best way is to remove it and clean it, but the seal can get damaged, get a new seal first, or a bit of a silicon repair job on the seal works well.

you can just replace the float which can quite often be the cause also. it can get small holes in it and not floast anymore

yeah mine also does that too, but IMO i don't think it really matters i see it go on every now and then, but it's not a big problem, i mean when it is low the light stays on and the computer starts beeping so you know when it is low, but it's not like it happens every min or 2, does it maybe once a day that i notice, but does not phase me, but im not a piccy person........

Vic mine was doing the same a couple of months back.. Turned out the float was full of water so wasn't floating any more..

Nick sold me one from FTG for $15 (came with a bonus tank attatched as well!) and swapped them over and works fine.

If you are careful you can actually swap them without losing or draining any coolant, just tilt the tank in the right direction and you should be able to get it in and out no problems.

I assume that the float is the sensor thingimie bob?

Incidentally, the low coolant warning lamp is pretty much remaining on most of the time now. :)

Yep, the float is the sensor in the side of the reservoir tank. If it is on all the time, I'd say it is now full of water, as mine was when I changed it.

To get it out, just turn the white plug that is holding it in, (I made a tool from a peice of timber and two appropriatley spaced nails and it came out fine) and it will then just pull out. Getting it back in, insert it upside down until the float is over the rib, or you will catch the float on the rib and break it off, and trust me its not much fun trying to fish it out that hole. Once it is over the rib turn it back so the indent lines up and push it the rest of the way in, then redo up the white plug/nut.

The switch unit has resistors in it to allow it to give a warning for a disconnected wire and a short circuited switch. One of these may be broken etc. Get a new one, cost very small compared with a blown motor.
