Fairlane/LTD had a more plush carpet yes.
not a big thing to most ppl, ive not even really thought about it to be honest; altho when you feel it it sinks in like 1.5cm where its not been pushed down by mats n stuff..

In the EF/EL range, Gli / Futura got the low series carpet - Fairmont / Ghia / Fairlane / LTD got the plusher carpet.

Also remember, the higher series got more sound deadening / thicker underlay (in parts)...this adds to the appearance of plusher carpet too.

that's probably one thing I wish I had put in while my interior was out - more underlay to quieten it down... oh well, one of those rainy day jobs...

Tell you waht, i need more under there!
Every now and then on a rainy day while driving you hear a loud splash under the car, had same deal in my last fairlane, like they missed a spot for insulating and its loud enough to have passengers say "wtf was that" lol.
Only happens on occasions tho, has to splash hard onto the right spot.
s**t fords.

I love it, same way you love a 40degree day or a crazy person who smells bad lol.

Doesnt mean they arent s**t, not saying they are useless or not value for money.

If money wasnt an object I would bet barely anyone would have a ford with stupid niggly issues.
