today i went down to see my mechanic, and talk to him about getting efi on my bro's XF (after putting a post on here a little while ago i was told it was not worth it) any way while i was talking to him (and we both decided it was not worth it, money could be better spent somewhere else) he said the number one problem was that the EFI system was too sensitive to cams and stuff.
back too my point... at a quick look he measured up all the sensors, injectors, MAP, etc. and said that if you already had the efi system you could probably just swap over all these things with the ones off an EB and eliminate this problem. just thought i would tell you guys and find out if someone has already done it, and if it does work?

anything is possible, but you'd need to reprogram the ECU to recognise the new components, and you'd possibly have to add all the extra bits..... same amount of effort as would be involved with chucking a 4L into the XF

Ive heard of people running XF EFI motors with EA-EB computers and sensors, but i dont think you could use an XF computer with EB sensors (XF is MAF based and EA upwards is MAP based right?)

according to my mechanic (who is currently putting a 4.0L in to an XF) it would be much easier. he said that the cost to put a 4.0L into an XF and hook every thing up so the cluster and aircon and all works properly is around $2500 (based on fairmont giah with crappy electric stuff) so i cant see how changig a few sensors would involve the same amount of time and money, HOWEVER im not a mechanic, and this is just my opinion.

IMO the best way to get around the problem would be to ditch the XF's EECIV

i thought XF EECIV was better than the system they used on the XE/ZK -0 EECIII - being that i been able to get the ZL (EECIV) to idle a whole lot better than i could get my ZK's (EECIII) to ever....

the ZK should've had the bosch K-jetronic system in it..... AFAIK a lot less problematic than the early EECIV setup found in the XF's

EA/ EB EFI and XF EFI are completely different (although both are EEC-IV).
XF is open loop (no O2 sensor) EA/EB is closed loop (has O2 sensor) The best scenario if you want to use EA/EB injection is to get the shebang from a EB and graft it onto an XF. If the XF isn't already injected, you'll also need to run fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel filter and wiring. You'll need to put a bung in the exhaust for the O2 sensor too. The E-series computer should work fine as it will just read the E sensors and adjust the fuel for the correct O2. I looked into this very closely before I discovered Megasquirt and decided MS was a better option. |
