she runs but there's a strange noise, sounds like the timing chain is rubbing against something...

I've got an old head bolt sitting here and a ruler, but I can't find the mystery bolt, gunna have to tear the house up now to find her.

And yes, the BIG BOLT IS A HEAD BOLT! Put that one in there to show you the difference.
Also the diamter of the bolt is to small (also seems to be too long)to be a rocker gear bolt (and all my rocker gear bolts are there and I don't have any spare or shouldn't or didn't before).
And it was in the same bag as the bolts around the power steering pump and bracket.

It's really s**t me as it could be the reason for the queer noise in my car!

I know where it goes... I think... :D

There is a bolt that goes through the front of the alternator bracket. Its a longish bolt as it has to go through this bracket and the timing cover into the block.

Its an absolute prick to see with the alternator in place, as the pully kind of covers the hole. If it is this one, you will have to loosen the alternator and tilt it away from the engine to screw it in.

I only say this as you seem to be missing the brace from the p/s pump bracket to the top front of the alternator. I'm assuming you might have had the alternator out during the head swap.

alternator wasn't touched when we swapped the head. so i'll have a look but this bolt should be there then!
and yes i seem to be missing a power steering bracket (kept seeing it in the manuals and was thinking what the f**k). wasn't there when i bought the car.
