Hey, I've got a dismantled EFI 250 Crossflow engine that I am thinking of rebuilding, It's a complete motor but I pulled the head off it today, what would be the best way to check the overall health of the engine before I decide what I'm gonna do with it? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Pull out a piston, check how much lip there is at the top of the cylinder to see how worn they are. Then check for things like excessive lines in the bore from broken rings etc. Get an accurate dial gauge and check whether the bores are round. In well worn engines, the bore goes out of round.
