Im trying to figure out the easiest/cheapest way to get a sat Navigation going in my car.
I already have a in dash fold away screen that I want the visuals to appear on. Any ideas. Im new at this. |

What type/brand of screen?
Many brands that make screens have a sat nav pack thats optional or an add on piece that can be hooked up to it. My pioneer unit has the option, but of course works best with the pioneer sat nav You can get stand alone ones which just allow you to plug into your screen if your screen has the inputs or if you are using an AV module to hook things up to it.

Thanks Dan
Im after a stand alone one which will allow me to plug it into my screen. I was thinking of either buying a unit specifically for sat nav or maybe buying a handheld pc and hooking up a gps receiver with software. |

yeah i was thinking of getting a hp poket pc and using the navman reciever the reciever costs $680 but this wrks out alright if u have the use for the poket pc just make sure u get a separate unit if u go this way ie. dont get the navman all in one as they are sensitive to having view of the sky.
were as the navman reciver needs to be in view of sky and then sends info via blue tooth to pocket pc done a bit of research so if u want more info just ask |

I run a HP 5550 pocketpc with either a Navman sleeve, or a compactflash GPS receiver.
The sleeve is an addon that onyl fits the iPAQ models, and yeah needs LOS to the sky for best effect. Which is OK for me cause I've got a mount that stis it just in from the dash, so it can 'see' out the windscreen. However I find my CF card GPS much better, as it has an option for an external antenna, which gives much better reception. Navman Sleeve: http://www.navman.com/land/products/gps3450/index.html Haicom CF GPS: http://www.haicom.com.tw/gps302.htm There are pletny of Bluetooth options these days (wasn't when I was buying), but I can't comment on them as I haven't used any of them. Both of the above are good, but I prefer the Haicom CF one. As for software, I use Destinator - not cheap but the best I've ever used.
