Got a hold of a G-tech the other day and did some 400m time trials. The average of 3 time trials were:

1) 15.90 sec stalling up auto(1800rpm) and punching it in power mode.

2) 15.25 sec stalling up auto(1800rpm) and then manual shifting the auto.

I am going out shortly and getting some sort of shift light.. The results speak for themselves..............

I will need to get a stage 3 crow cam and chip to break into the magical 14 sec bracket....

cheers.........

you can't prroperly manual shift the BTR 4 speeds, they willl only shift into the next gear when the computer tells them to. If you manual shhift it up a gear before the computer tells it to change the gear it won't change. But if you keep it in the current gear when the compuuter wants to change up it won't change, but as soon as you put it up it'll change.
But if your getting better results go for it hey.

Agreed with twr7cx.
I only 'manual shift' to engine brake, or to hold a gear for corners.
Straightline, I hold it flat in first, and give a bit of a throttle lift off from 2nd to 3rd to force an earlier shift.

i find with that s**t shift kit i have, the electronic one, it'll manually change first to second almost straight away as i bang it in, but 2nd and 3rd/4th it changes when it wants to

I have also found that sometimes the computer waits too long to change the gears. Miight be because I've chosen cam and etractors too boosy low down power more than anything but...

Nah, stock cammed E-Series falcs (especially us without the BBM manifold) are always a bit breathless at anything above 4000-4500.
Everyone I've driven has been.

Offtopic, mine was shifting very lazily awhile ago, holding on for far too long, but after I adjusted the bands (I think you later EF-EL guys have no external adjustment though) it was mucho better.

Manual shifting won't make a difference with an EL. There's really no point taking it past 5000rpm anyway, it'll just do damage. The biggest factor would be how you launch. A small difference at the beginning makes a large time gap at the end of the quarter mile. You really need to do more then just a few runs to get a decent idea of what works and what doesn't. You might have just been lucky for one run, or another might have had a bit of wind blowing, etc etc.

I find giving mine a quick service - new filter and some fresh oil helps a fair bit.
Also since I fitted an EF Tickford/XR6 ECU it shifts later in Economy/Normal mode aswell.
