Standard NF, NFII, NL got the single DIN stereo.
Fairmont Ghia, LTD, Fairlane Sportsman, GT, Fairlane By Tickford got the double DIN stereo which controls the CD unit, seating position and DSP affects.
It was however an option on the standard fairlane ghia so you see the odd one with it.

Hope that clears it a little.

Mainly the Premium unit differences are it had a 8" sub and amp, more powerfull in return, alth onot earth breaking lol.
The headunit itself sported few more CD buttons, controls to select what seating position you would like it to sound best in:
- driver only
- front seats only
- whole car
Also had DSP (digital sound processing) which in turn adds different touches to the sound as if played in:
- studio
- jazz club
- concert hall
- stadium
etc.

Its a good stock unit for its days, better are around now, OEM and aftermarket.

Anymore progress photos of your ZL? Maybe move the LPG filler to behind the rear licence plate - I hate them when they are placed on the side of the body, looks neater from the rear - hidden away.
