good for eco
has never pinged(ultimat 98)
I have ran cruise as far as 16.5 and its fine.

As you said, timing helps

Yeah I can see that it may be good for economy, just wondering because an AF ratio of 14.7 gives the absolute best and most efficient burn therefore it should also technically provide the best economy. I just haven't seen and fuel maps which go much over the 14.7, but you would have to test it out and see.

More fuel in general will make a smoother cruise.
16 is less then 14.7 which means less fule consumption. And its still really smooth.

But if you put your foot down a little the power is there coz it then uses a different load/rpm cell.

Yeah I know 16 is less fuel but it also burns less effeciently. 14.7 is the perfect ratio for combustion giving the most efficient burn and most power. As I said I am no expert but I would imagine you would want to run as close to 14.7 and then increase timing advance to the point just before it pings. If my understanding is correct, this should provide the best fuel economy. This is how ford do it on the standard EEC, run an open loop system which keeps AF ratio at 14.68 all the time until the computer is forced into closed loop fuel control under high load or high rpm.
