Its nice to post again after such a long time of just reading everyone else's. I have the following questions which need to be clarified. Please advice me on this because I dont want to spend a heap just to change a key.
Anyway the problem is the ignition key on my EF xr6 turns on fine but gives me a hell of a time to turn it off. It has been getting worse over time and since this morning I spend atleast 5 mins trying to get the key out. I understand reading from other posts that ,I need to change the barrel. The problem is I couldnt find a detailed document about the procedure. Is it straight forward or is it tricky for a novice like me? Im thinking about buying a barrel from wreckers and want to know if there is any way I can use the current key programmed for the new barrel?

Check the gregory's manual about the ignition and that will help you to change the ignition barrel. Try graphite powder down the barrel - that helps sometimes.

Thanks for the help. Its all fixed with a spray of WD40. Im just hitting myself wondering why I didnt try that before it got worse.

Hi,
I'm a locksmith and a ford fan. I could supply and install a new ignition slug for a reasonable price keyed to your exisiting key. If you want more info p.m. me. Lot's of luck Az
