I am looking to import some parts from the US. I have never done this before and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about it? This guy is advertizing pro comp heads brand new. He said their made in Australia. Has anyone got any info on these?

Problem with auto parts here in Australia compared to the U.S. is that the parts are cheaper in the U.S., sometimes even still after P+H and the conversion to the Aussie dollar.
I have put down money on two items from the U.S. and the cost after converting to Aussie dollars is still far better than buying those same items here. Another good thing I found is that the ACS ( Australian Customs Service ) won't hit me for duty if the item being imported here is under $1000. Makes it easier on my wallet.

Be carefull, the cheap pro comp ones advertised on ebay eand many other places are not made in Australia although they always advertise they are. They are cheap knock offs made in china and from memory have manifold alignment issues but I would search the US forums for details.

I google searched pro comp heads and I could only find the suspension parts, rims and other stuff I am not interested in. I then went to pro comp electronics web site and found them on there. I think i will give them a ring as they tell you sweet FA on there. Also who would be a good importer or shipping company?

Thanks damage for the link. I took me approx 3 hrs to go through it all. 8 pages and still going. Very interesting info from people who have experience with these heads. They still haven't said if the alloy in them is any good eg soft, eaten out by coolant, tendency to warp ect but snap on are a bunch of crooks.

But what is the go with importing parts? Ok, the limit is $1000 until customs hits you I assume, but what about GST etc? If you're over $1000 what happens then? I keep hearing that it's better than buying from places like HPW as they tend to double prices or whatever, but I rarely get answers..

I bought in two turbo's NEW cost in AU $$ was $2200 including postage etc.. I payed $180 to customs..Thats all.. All above board...
Second hand parts there is no duty...Well under $1000...The killer is postage and places like summit kill you there and charge $70 U.S just to do overseas order..I prefere JEGS..

Its better to import now - because they have upped the limit to $1000US.

When I got my injectors, and MAF in (purchased on ebay), I got stung with about $170 in customs fee's. Still worked out cheaper than buying in aus though.

Also - make sure that you specify AIR MAIL. People in the USA always seem to want to send things by surface mail (sea mail), just so they can save $2 in postage (and we end up waiting 3 months instead of 10 days)

What is the deal with customs do you haveto contact them or will they contact you or is it paid for in the freight costs when you order the parts.
