Thanks all.
Smiley235 kindly checked it out for me. (for free Tommi). However, doing the sums, with transport from VIC to Syd, rego (since its got interstate rego) etc, it ends up not being worth it unless it happens to be absolutely schmick and with no work needed (which it isn't and it does). Decided much better off waiting until the right X series falcon with a 351 pops up and putting the money towards it. Much nicer car with better resale and generally easier/cheaper to get parts for. Smiley235 is a top bloke. Isn't he Tommi? |

"most" 1979 242 gt's had stripes, but then alot of them have had resprays.. does it have the round or square headlights? round = 1979 square = 1980 Are these 242 GT's anything special? One of my friends has one and she is in love with it. Its gunmetal grey with orange stripes in the interior. 4 speed manual as well, lol. It has the square lights so it is the 1980 model. What are they worth? She paid about $2 thousand i think

Hey nomad,
These have a bit of a cult following I suppose. They were popular due to the 'sports' image they gave over the standard 2 door volvos - the paint scheme, interior stripes, different cam, 2.3lt motor (I think instead of 2.1), gauges etc etc. A few years ago they seemed to be a lot more expensive, but yes, these days you can pick one up for a couple of grand. They were released in limited numbers (I can't remember the exact number) but you would not say are 'rare'. For a car that didn't have millions released here in Oz, its actually surprising how many you actually still see around. |
