Can it be possible to convert a passenger side EF exterior door handle (with keyhole) to an EL passenger exterior door handle (without a keyhole?)

yep - quite a few guys have done it. frank got rid of ext locks alltogether in his AU from memory

i got rid of my passenger lock but not keen on removing the drivers lock - what would happen if the key fob died???

Well Greg, you can rig an emergency manual system in case your keyfob or car lose power. There's a few places you can put it to not be obvious.
