Last April I had my front discs re-machined and put on some EBC greenstuff pads. That made a big difference over standard for me. Last week, I had the need to take off the wheels and rotate them and used that time to bleed the brake fluid and inspect the greenstuff pads. The pads were half worn and when the brakes were flushed and the wheels back on, the car pulled up even better.
So take the time to bleed your brakes properly as just doing that little can affect your braking noticeably.

Standard Ford brake parts are cheap and nasty (engien block slag makes up the discs, and cheapo material for the pads) as Ford will make more money them ore often you replace them...
As is evident, there's two camps, those that want better braking without high cost, they choose DBA or RDA slotted discs (crossdrilled are wank for road use) and premium brand pads. I prefer Lucas pads. Also an option is braided brake lines, these prevent the normally just rubber brake lines expanding under pressure (= lost clamping force). Then theres the option of brake upgrades this is expensive, but offers something you can't get otehr wise - more braking power (clamping force from more 'pots') and increase friction surface (larger disc and larger pads). edit: Also some people upgrade to a DOT5 brake fluid, it has a higher boiling point, so is more resistant to fade, probaly a worthy upgrade if as you say you do hill climbs or track work.

A worthy upgrade IMO, but take note. The higher 'DOT' rating of the brake-fluid, and the higher it's boiling point, the quicker it absorbs moisture. So it will need to be flushed more regularly.
